Fees
Stated up front, so you can decide whether this is right for you before you get in touch.
What counselling costs
Two figures, and no surprises after them.
A first conversation about what is bringing you here. Usually with our lead therapist. There is no obligation to continue afterwards.
Usually weekly, at a consistent time reserved for you. The rate depends on the practitioner and the session format.
No registration fee. No minimum number of sessions. No tie-in.
Paying for sessions
Sessions are paid for in advance. We send an invoice, and you can pay by bank transfer (BACS) or card. Card payments are handled securely by Stripe. Your card details never reach the practice.
Your therapy agreement
Before your first ongoing session, you and your therapist agree written terms covering confidentiality and its limits, cancellations, and how we work together. It sets out what you can expect from us, and it does not tie you to a number of sessions.
Cancelling or rearranging
We ask for at least 48 hours' notice. Your appointment time is held for you each week rather than offered to someone else, so a session cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice is charged at the full rate.
What you are paying for
An hour that belongs to you, with a qualified practitioner who is registered, insured and supervised.
Your session time is held for you each week, whether or not you are able to use it. That is what makes it possible to build the kind of consistent relationship the work depends on.
- A BACP-registered practitioner, in regular clinical supervision
- A private room in central Canterbury, or a secure online session
- The same time each week, reserved for you
- Full professional indemnity insurance
- No charge for the time we spend preparing or reviewing between sessions
If private therapy is out of reach
Private counselling is not affordable for everyone, and it should not be the only way to get help.
NHS talking therapies
Free. Your GP can refer you, and in most areas you can also refer yourself directly. There is often a waiting list.
Charities and low-cost services
Organisations including Mind and Rethink offer free or reduced-cost counselling, and some train counsellors who see clients at lower rates.
If you need help now
None of the above is right for a crisis. See urgent help for support available today, free, at any hour.
Questions about fees
What it costs, what is included, and what happens if it is not affordable.
How much does counselling cost at The Pickle Jar Therapy Practice?
Why is the first session cheaper than the ongoing ones?
Do I have to commit to a set number of sessions?
How and when do I pay for my therapy sessions?
What is your cancellation policy?
What if I cannot afford private counselling?
Knowing the cost is part of deciding
If the figures work for you, the next step is a conversation rather than a commitment.
